The time… deconstructed, indicated in a three-dimensional way, and without hands. This is the mission of the Trilobe Une Folle Journée. Trilobe is a young French independent brand first envisioned in 2013, which released its first watch in 2018. The concept; a new way to indicate the time. Conceptual, different, slightly poetical, and with sheer watchmaking skills behind it. The founder of the brand, Gautier Massonneau, the son of an architect, decided to go beyond the classic hands. First seen with two watches named “Les Matinaux” and “Nuit Fantastique” the idea was to use three separated discs to indicate the hours, the minutes and the seconds. And now, with the new Trilobe Une Folle Journée, the brand adds boldness and visible mechanics to the equation.

Trilobe Une Folle Journée

The first watches of Trilobe were surely original in terms of display, but on the classic, elegant side when it came to the design of the cases and dials. This is not the case anymore with the brand’s latest creation, which is a strong evolution of the concept. More complex, more architectural, far more modern and with a dial that hides… nothing! While the Les Matinaux used discs inserted into a dial with a flat display, the Trilobe Une Folle Journée liberates itself from the base dial and now offers a display that is still based on eccentric, rotating discs, yet these are now floating over the base plate and free the view on the mechanics underneath.

And instead of a flat profile, the whole watch is now domed. The display still consists of three concentric indications, with the hours on the periphery, then the minutes and finally, in the centre, the seconds. Overall, there’s something a bit MBandF in the concept, but also with the usual personality of Trilobe. And now, the discs are projected into the air thanks to columns attached to the wheels underneath.
