The Bubble, brought to us by an extraordinary visionnaire and talented businessman, former Corum owner Severin Wunderman almost a quarter century ago, rarely ceased to amaze and kept us interested all these years. The Corum Bubble is still one of today’s most recognizable watch designs, satisfying the thirst for the exceptional. It is hard to find another watch in the luxury segment that offered its dial to serve the creative expression in such an exclusive manner and even thought to magnify the artistic effect by mounting a “loupe” of sapphire glass for our viewing pleasure. Check out the limited Bubble editions launched by Corum in partnership with artists and studios such as Label Noir, and dive deep and admire extraordinary dial designs from the company’s studio.

However, Corum is, first and foremost, a watch manufacture famous for its mechanical prowess. Anyone in doubt, we invite you to review the Golden Bridge collection for a start, created with a bit of help from watchmaker Vincent Calabrese. And the Bubble, playful and emotional, is not alien to complications. The oversized Bubble case hosted none other but the tzar of complications, a tourbillon, and not just once. Revealed to the public in 2018, the Corum Bubble 47 Central Tourbillon, as the name implies, featured a tourbillon placed in the centre of the dial, drawing all the attention to the mechanics centre-stage and the Corum key logo in the middle of the upper bridge.

The hours and minutes were moved to the outer edge of the dial and were indicated by two triangular pointers, with the hour ring closer to the centre and minutes on the periphery. Two versions were presented at the time, a black PVD-coated titanium case with red gold and titanium case with the blue-coloured surface under the tourbillon, the latter a stunner. Looking at the new Bubble 47 Central Tourbillon made in collaboration with the Label Noir watch customization atelier, I quickly cast my vote to name this piece unique one of the best Bubbles ever, and the best of all the other “Label Noir x” editions.

With central tourbillons being a relatively rare breed, with only a handful of brands featuring models in their catalogues (Omega, Bvlgari, Franck Muller, Haldimann, to name a few), this Corum x Label Noir timepiece should not take long to find the owner, even though this unique piece is priced at CHF 95,000. The 47mm case is in titanium grade 5, and the titanium bezel and crown with black ADLC treatment set up the colour scheme for the black-coloured brass dial. The fluorescent-green elements – green lacquer triangular time indicators with Black Superluminova and Corum x Label Noir inscription are responsible for the futuristic look. Still, they do not draw attention from the tourbillon. Quite the contrary, silvery components in constant motion are prevalent, despite the size.

The enormous sapphire glass, which adds to the almost 2cm thickness of the watch, magnifies the tourbillon and simultaneously distorts it so that only the owner can enjoy the spectacle. The watch is 100m water resistant, the one-minute central tourbillon calibre CO406 has a 4Hz frequency, employs two mainspring barrels to provide a power reserve of 65 hours, and is wound automatically.
